Cenni storici
Su Candiana, circa la derivazione del suo nome due sono le ipotesi: la prima chiama in causa addirittura la dea Diana ( Campus Dianae ), qui onorata per essere venuta, dice la leggenda, a cacciare; la seconda si rifa` ad una credenza secondo la quale il centro sarebbe stato fondato da un gruppo di persone fuggite dall'isola greca Candia da cui Candiana.

Il nome Pontecasale trarrebbe, invece, origine dall'unione delle voci Casale, denotando un'origine molto antica, e Ponte intendendo con cio' quello presso il canale Rebosola, scolo scavato dai benedettini a scopo di bonifica.

Dalla storia del fiume Adige si nota come esso anticamente nella regione veneta scorresse quasi disarginato; era diviso in tre rami, uno dei quali passava per i territori delle Lusie di Montagnana, Este, Monselice, Tribano e prosegiuva per Candiana, Villa del Bosco e Chioggia. E' facile quindi immaginare come queste popolazioni per nascere furono costrette a combattere contro l'invasione delle acque dell'Adige.

Historical tips
The Origin of the name Candiana is not sure. There are two different opinions.
One refers to the cultural figure of Diana (Campus Dianae) that, according to the legend, came here for hunting.
It is also said that the centre of Candiana was founded by a group of people that settled here after leaving the Greek Island of Candia.

The name Pontecasale takes origin from the union of the name “Casale” (that reminds of houses in ancients times) and the name “Ponte” (Ponte = Bridge), maybe the one near the canal Rebosola that was dug by the Benedettini abbotts in order to reclaim the marsh.

According to the history of the river Adige it appears that in ancient times it usually flew having hardly any riverbank, divided into three branches. One of these branches used to cross the so called Lusie of Montagnana, that is Este, Monselice, Tribano ending its run after crossing Candiana, Villa del Bosco and Chioggia. It is easy then to imagine how the people, settled here, had to fight against the overflowing water in order to survive and develop.
